The New England Patriots solidified their lone weak-spot on the roster today. The Pats dealt a 2010 3rd and 5th rounder (although according to beat writer Mike Reiss' Twitter, the Pats will give a 4th rounder if they do not acquire a 5th rounder because they do not currently have one) for the two time Pro Bowler Derrick Burgess. The 31 year-old Burgess will take over Mike Vrable's OLB spot opposite Adalius Thomas. Burgess played DE in Oakland's 4-3 scheme, but it's pretty widely believed that he will play standing up in the Pats' 3-4 set. This will allow the Patriots to use Pierre Woods, Tully Banta-Cain, and second year player Shawn Crable as backups and on special teams where they belong. The Patriots were terrible at getting pressure on the QB last year, so this is a necessary move that fills the one glaring whole left on this perennial championship caliber roster.
Jump on the over 11.5 wins for the Patriots now.
