Just a couple of hours ago David Ortiz faced the media and held a press conference at Yankee Stadium. While he did acknowledge the fact that he may have been careless and bought supplements over the counter, he did firmly state that he never bought or used steroids. The truth is nobody seems to know how official this list is with regards to positive tests and what substances players tested positive for. There was clearly a steroid era, but does anybody actually care about this stuff anymore? I hope this list is either clarified or destroyed.
In other Red Sox news Jed Lowrie was placed back on the DL after feeling numbness in his wrist. It looks like reliever Enrique Gonzalez will be called up due to the 15 innings from last night. Nick Green needs to step up as it looks like he will be at short down the stretch unless the Red Sox are able to make a waiver claim. Anybody have ideas?
Jason Bay also looks like he is going to miss the remainder of the Yankee series due to a lingering hamstring. The Sox outfield is looking thin and hopefully Bay can avoid a stint on the disabled list.
UPDATE:
Tim Wakefield is hoping to throw a simulated game on Monday and the once deep Sox rotation needs Wakefield back bad and hopefully he can perform like he did in the first half. With only Josh Beckett and John Lester pulling their weight it could be an interesting stretch run. It will be interesting to see if Terry Francona takes a look at top prospect Michael Bowden. I’m sure crusty Paul Byrd will get a try at some point as well. Even though we need the bat of Victor Martinez it will be tough to watch Justin Masterson pitch well for the Tribe.
