This and That: Pats make a trade

PATRIOTS

-The Patriots moved former sixth round pick Le Kevin Smith this morning in a trade with the Denver Broncos. Packaged with a 7th round pick, the Patriots received back a fifth rounder. This fifth rounder will immediately be moved to the Raiders as part of the Derrick Burgess trade which stipulated that if the Pats did not have a fifth rounder, that they would have to give a fourth. The 308 pound Smith was expandable, as he never truly developed a role up front since being drafted in '06. Look for rookies Ron Brace and Myron Pryor to back up Vince Wilfork, or even play next to him in 4-3 sets.

CELTICS

-With an inability to find a third team to facilitate a sign-and-trade involving Marquis Daniels, the Celtics look close to singing the swing man to a two-year pact at the league's biannual exemption (thought to be roughly $1.8 million, but we will see once he signs). Once the signing is official, look for an indepth view at the Celtics' roster.

RED SOX

-Looks like Smoltzie will be released today at 2 o'clock unless a deal can be struck very soon. Was a bit foolish to think we could get something back for a guy who is over the hill. Sad his time here didn't work out.
