Please Don't Be Hurt

The Red Sox lost tonight's game 9-5 in New York against the Yankees. The loss isn't nearly as big a story as the fact that Jon Lester had to leave the game in the third inning thanks to a line drive off the knee from Melky Cabrera. Lester immediately went to the ground and rolled around in pain. If he can still pitch, then no big deal. We can disregard the 5 runs and 8 hits as long as he can make his next start on schedule and be 100% for game 1 or 2 against the Angels. If however he misses a start and is limping around on the mound like Tim Wakefield, we're in trouble. Big time. Here's hoping he's alright (apparently it's a quad contusion).

NOTES:
-V-Mart extended his hit streak with a solo HR.
-Michael Bowden came in after Hunter Jones and threw 2.1 innings. He looked good at first, striking out three, but left having given up 2 runs. He could be the fifth starter next year (with Wakefield) so his success against NY could be big.
-Lowell had the night off tonight, so expect him back in tomorrow.
-Tito said in an interview that Varitek would catch two of the three games in the series. Tek was awful tonight as much as I hate to say it. The Yanks, who don't even run much, ran all over him. Eck had some good commentary, saying Lester never lets guys run, but they ran all over Tek. There was a stat in Texas that Tek had only thrown out 8 in 102 runners and it's only gotten worse. He's hitting under .200 since the break and not even blocking balls behind the plate. I'm sorry but he's a backup at best at this point.
