Red Sox Sweep Double Header and Series

GAME 1

Pedroia stepped up to the plate in the eighth inning with the go-ahead run on third base and one out. All he had to do was hit a sac-fly and the lead would be in hand, but he nailed a rare opposite field home run that kept carrying into the bullpen.

Buchholz was strong again. Seven innings of one-run ball for Clay who is becoming very reliable. Oki would pick up his sixth win of the season pitching the eighth and Papelbon got his 36th save striking out the side in the 9th.

GAME 2

Lester then shut down the Rays in the second game to pick up his 13th win. Eight shutout innings for the crafty lefty who struck out seven, walked three, and allowed only two hits. Wagner would finish off the game striking out two in the ninth.

An RBI groundout by Lowell would be the only runs the Sox would need, but Varitek added a two RBI single and Bay a HR in the eighth.
