Sox Win 3-1
Despite having just one strikeout tonight, Clay Buchholz was able to spin six beautiful innings. While he walked three and gave up five hits, he allowed only one run in the outing. The bullpen did their job and Bard, Oki, and Paps finished off the game with three hit-less innings.
Casey Kotchman drew the start and delivered with an RBI single to put the Sox ahead 1-0. J-Bay then blasted his 32nd HR in the fourth before leaving the game with flu-like symptoms. Ellsbury, who had stolen his 62nd base earlier in the game, later added an insurance run.
MORE:
Wake will start Monday, moving Beckett back to Wednesday. With no more off days left in the season, this allows the team to strategically give Beck some extra rest (as they did for Lester last week). After he starts Monday, Wake will not pitch for atleast 10 days as the team evaluates how his back holds up.
Best case scenario is the Sox having to make a tough decision about who is the fourth starter in the playoffs if Wake can get back in the discussion with Dice-K.
