Anaheim Didn't Just Beat Us in Baseball Last Night

The Boston Bruins dropped to 1-2 last night in an embarrassing loss to Anaheim. The Ducks came to Boston looking for a much needed win after losing in their home opener last Saturday.

In the first, the Bruins forecheck pressed hard on the Anaheim defense while playing their physical, up-tempo game. Boston out-shot the Ducks 19-11 in the period and capitalized late with a goal from Marco Sturm.

With momentum on their side the Bruins shot themselves in the foot by taking two stupid penalties that veteran forward Teemu Selanne would capitalize on in the second period. After taking the blow of two quick goals the B's just looked flat. As the period came to a close, Corey Perry added one more for the Ducks extending their lead 3-1 going into the third.

The fourth line was the only one to show up in the third period. Forwards Scott Thornton, Steve Begin, and Byron Bitz all competed hard while creating numerous scoring opportunities. Artruykhin, Ryan, and Perry would add fuel to the fire by scoring the final three goals making the final score 6-1 Ducks.

Key Notes:

The powerplay killed the Bruins again as they went 0-5. The Ducks were 2-6.

Shots: BOS out-shot ANA 30-17 through the 2nd, but got outnumbered 13-4 in the 3rd

Claude Julien expressed that it's a problem when your 4th line is your best line from night to night.
