Bruins Go Down

Devils take the lead 2-1 near the end of the 3rd.

The Bruins lost to the Devils tonight by a 2-1 score. This was a particularly tough pill to swallow for the B's, as the game was tied 1-1 until the Devils' Dainius Zubrus scored with only 1:26 left in the third period. New Jersey's G Yann Danis started in goal and gave all-star G Martin Brodeur a rare night off and the Bruins were unable to capitalize in his absence. Danis made 31 stops in his first appearance of the season, turning back the Bruins' attempts all night long.

G Tim Thomas saved 29 of 31 shots for Boston, but it was not enough and the Bruins fell to a disappointing 3-4 on home ice. C Patrice Bergeron continues his impressive play for the team, scoring the only B's goal in the night in the second period. Berg leads the team with eight points, which speaks volumes about the team's lack of production on offense so far early this season. By comparison, Washington's star W Alexander Ovechkin leads the NHL with 22 points.

The Bruins had an opportunity to tie the game twice in the final 1:26 of the game but missed on both chances with one of them going past Danis but clanking off of the crossbar. Boston was 0/2 on the power play again tonight and now are disappointing 6/42 on the power play for the season, ranking them among the league's worst.

The 5-5-1 Bruins (3-4 home) will take on the 7-5-1 (1-3 road) Oilers at 1:00 Saturday afternoon at the TD Garden.
