Red Sox Pick Up 95th Win in Finale
The Red Sox won today 12-5 in the final game of the regular season. The Sox did it with the long-ball again today hitting five homers including ones by A-Gon, Pedroia, two by JD, and a grand slam by Lowrie. Pedroia went yardsky for the second straight day (15 on the season) and is getting hot at the right time. Good to see JD swinging a big stick coming off of the cortisone shot he received in his shoulder and the two solo shots brought his season total to 24. Papi added two RBIs to finish with 99 on the season; great turnaround for him. Ellsbury also swiped his 70th stolen base.
Buchholz, on the other hand, struggled again today. The young righty gave up six earned runs in three innings of work. Throwing 70 pitches Clay gave up five hits, two walks, but struck out six. His ERA has risen a full run over his past two outings (3.21 to 4.21); lets hope he's not hitting a wall heading into postseason play. A plethora of pitchers finished off the game.
MORE:
-In a classy gesture, manager Terry Francona removed captain Jason Varitek mid-inning to a standing ovation. It could have been his last regular season game as a member of the Sox.
-J-Bay did not make error all season finishing with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
-Lester, Beckett, Buchholz was the rotation set for the ALDS. No fourth starter was announced.
