Bruins Finally Score but Lose in Shootout

The Bruins were on the wrong end of a tough battle tonight as the team lost 2-1 in an overtime shootout. Following a timeout with 51.7 seconds left in the game, Patrice Bergeron scored off of a rebound to tie the game 1-1 in a 6 on 5 situation. However, Wheeler, Bergeron, and Recchi all came up empty in the shootout and the B's could only escape with a point.

Tim Thomas took another loss although he played well the team simply could not provide him any support. It's been a frustrating season for Thomas and the Bruins but everyone has to continue to keep grinding while the stars are out. Although Thomas got beat one time, he did everything he could to keep his team and in the game including a jaw-dropping save that'll be seen on SportsCenter all night long.

NOTES:
  • Bergeron appeared to score in the second period, but the goal was disallowed as the referees concluded that the net was lifted off of the moorings.
  • Before Bergeron's game tying goal in the 3rd period, the B's had gone 192 minutes and 6 seconds without scoring.
  • The lone goal on Thomas resulted when Tim Thomas fell victim of Dennis Wideman's poor play as he left his goalie in a bad scenario when he fell down in a 2 on 2 situation and took out fellow defenseman Matt Hunwick with him.
  • The Bruins killed off a 5 on 3 for 53 seconds and limited the chances the Canadiens had.
  • The Bruins also went 0 for 3 on the powerplay and are now 0 for their last 20; they are ranked last in the NHL on the PP.
The Bruins are going to have to work with what they have. They will have to get it done with this group of guys until their leaders return, and the quicker the Bruins can fix their offensive woes the better fortune the team will begin to have. It's very tough to replace your team's best players, and while the young players for Boston have really stepped up and played well in the roles they have been asked to, they must find different ways to put the "biscuit in the basket."

The B's take on the Sabers Saturday at 7 at the Garden. Buffalo is first in their division and third in the Eastern Conference.
