UPDATE 5:11 PM
Via ESPN.com, it seems that the rumored deal has cooled over the recent hours due to the Celtics' concern about the length of Andres Nocioni's contract. Because Nocioni is integral in making the salaries balance in the deal, it seems that nothing is currently imminent on the trade front for the C's.
Numerous news outlets this morning have conveyed a popular trade rumor. The deal would send the expiring contracts of J.R. Giddens, Tony Allen, and Brian Scalabrine packing in a three-team deal that would net the Celtics Argentinian sharp-shooter Andres Nocioni.
This isn't the first time the C's have shown interest in Nocioni, but his contract remains an obstacle. Nocioni is due $7.5 million this season and $13.5 over the next two season through 2012. Over his career, the 6'7" forward has averaged 12 PPG and 5 rebounds while proving to be a threat from downtown and with a very servicable FT%.
Where does he fit in?
He would most likely join the second unit which is comprised of Eddie House, Marquis Daniels, Sheldon Williams/Glen Davis, and Rasheed Wallace which would allow the C's to sit all five starters for about 15-18 minutes per game.
Is the trade worth it for a role player who will add a long-term contract to the alread financially wary Celtics? If the Gold Medal winner can contribute to our championship aspirations, then maybe it is worth is.

- Coach Doc Rivers expressed some regret in playing captain Paul Pierce the other night. Pierce's balky knee, which he injured Friday night versus Atlanta, clearly limited him. He will take a few days off and hope to go Wednesday versus Golden State.
- Rajon Rondo has been working on his free throw shooting with the few days off as the 64% FT shooter is shooting a measly 3-12 this season from the stripe.
