The Yankees Just Upped the Ante

We will have to hear about the Yankees and their 27th World Series championship for the foreseeable future after they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies last night to end the season. It had almost been a decade since the Yankees had won a championship, and just as soon as Yankee fans were beginning to panic, the team finally delivered.

The team made a few sound investments to shore up their championship hopes this season, to say the very least. The Yanks added Mark Teixeira ($180 million), C.C. Sabathia ($161 million), and A.J. Burnett ($82.5 million) in a single offseason. Yes, their payroll was far and above anyone's in the league. Yes, the argument can be made that they bought a world championship. However, nobody can argue with the result, and at the end of the day, even the best players in the world have to perform and that's what the Yankees did.

The pressure is on the Red Sox now. Come spring training in February, the Yankees will be the reigning world champions and the Red Sox will be looking to reclaim what they believe is rightfully theirs. What lies ahead this offeason is in focus and we will be previewing what moves could be on the horizon for the Sox next week.
