Bruins Get Back on Winning Side

Remarkably, this was Thomas' 10th straight win over Ottawa.

Tim Thomas led the Bruins to their first win in four games last night as the B's won 2-0 against division rival Ottawa. An 0-2-2 stretch had us worrying, but Thomas picked up the shutout and allowed the Bruins to stay in the game. Under much scrutiny of late, Thomas improved his record this season 8-8-6 and hopefully this can get him going.

Patrice Bergeron broke a the scoreless tie 3 minutes into the 3rd period when he scored his 9th goal of the season off of a rebound from a Shawn Thornton shot. Marco Sturm added an insurance goal with 7 minutes left in the game which was his 10th of the year. Sturm and Bergeron are one and two on the squad in goals.

The defense was better last night as Dennis Wideman returned after missing two games. The team had been forced to have veterans Zdeno Chara and Andrew Ferrance major minutes as well as youngsters Johnny Boychuk, Adam McQuaid, and Andy Wozniewski the past few games. Wideman's return helped, and the team will continue to patch the D until Derek Morris (unknown) and Mark Stuart (broken sternum) return.

The win propelled the B's to a point ahead of the Sens in the division with 41 and they remain 6 back of division leader Buffalo. Wednesday night at 7 the Bruins host the 18-13-4 Florida Panthers before a three day break for the Christmas holiday.
