Celtics Win 7th Straight, Bruins Cooked

Rondo and Garnett have stepped up of late.

The Celtics finished their four game road tonight by easily handling the Thunder 105-87. With the team ahead 88-65 after the starting five dominated the third quarter, they were able to get a bit of rest and give way to the bench on the second night of back-to-back games. The Thunder are the youngest team in the league, but have a centerpiece to build around in Kevin Durant who showed up to play tonight, registering 36 points.
  • Kevin Garnett had 23 points (10-11 FGs) in just 25:32 and Paul Pierce had 21 points (6-11 FGs, 6-6 FTs) all in the first half.
  • Five other Celtics were in double figures: Rondo (15), Perkins (13), Allen (11), House (11), and Wallace (10).
  • The Celtics bench did not contribute at all despite the extra run. Giddens got the only other points for the C's bench by hitting 1 of his 2 attempts.
  • The Celtics' game plan was efficient as they shredded the Thunder's D by shooting 56.5% from the floor.
The Celtics now sit at 9-1 on the road which is the best in the NBA. The team will travel back to Boston and get a few days off before they host the surprising 9-8 Bucks on Tuesday night.

Not much good to say about the Bruins, as they were smoked tonight 5-1 in Montreal. The B's had won six of their last seven games coming into tonight and have not lost a game by this large of a margin since the Islanders beat them 4-1 on November 16th.
  • Tim Thomas stopped only 18 of 23 shots before being pulled. This was Thomas' third straight start since returning from a hand injury and was 2-0 giving up a total of 4 goals heading into tonight's shellacking.
  • 22 year old Vladimir Sobotka had the only goal for the B's tonight. The Czech wing's only other goal came on Halloween.
  • The dagger came in the second period when the Canadiens netted 3 goals in four minutes.
  • Taking a step back from their improved power play effort, the B's were 0 for 6 tonight with the man advantage.
The Bruins need to have a short memory as they play tonight at the Garden at 7:00. Tomorrow will mark the return of Phil Kessel, who the Bruins traded this offseason after concerns about whether he fit into the team's long term plans. In 15 games for the Leafs this season, Kessel has 10 goals and 5 assists.
