Bruins Chatter
The Bruins have been busy throughout this Olympic break. Well-represented in the tournament by its players, the team's front office has been greasing the wheels for a potential trade before NHL play picks back up.
Last week, we noted that the Bruins were still in the market for a defenseman & a playmaking winger who could help propel the team into the playoffs. This morning, we may have received some more insight into the team's thoughts.
According to the Boston Globe, Michael Ryder remains the most likely trade candidate before next week's deadline. Although he has improved his play of late, he remains an overall disappointment for the team and with a $4 million salary next season, the Bruins would love to get rid of his contract. It's widely believed that the team will have to eat some of his contract in order to successfully ship him out of town.
Another defenseman being linked to the squad is Toronto's Tomas Kaberle. The well-known veteran fits the bill as a puck-moving defenseman. Dennis "the show" Wideman has had a complete breakdown this season and the Bruins need for an offensive-minded stopper has become the number one priority. The possible hitch in any deal for Kaberle is that his contract contains a no-trade clause that he would have to be willing to waive in order to come to Beantown.
Let's see how this one plays out.
