Toronto has one game left in their season and currently sits at 72 points, good for second worst in the league in front of only Edmonton (60 points) and tonight they clinched the second worst record tonight.
What does this all mean?
The NHL will hold their draft lottery next Friday. Here's how it breaks down for the B's:
- Each team can move up as many as four spots from their final standing, and a team can only fall back one slot.
- The Bruins are second in the lottery and have an 18.8% chance at the first pick.
- Since each team can move up a maximum of four slots, there is a 33% chance that the teams behind the Bruins (teams 3-5) win the lottery which would cause the Bruins to slip down to the third overall slot.
This year's top two prospects are very highly touted; think Rose and Beasley. Center Tyler Seguin (63 games, 48 goals and 58 assists) and wing Taylor Hall (57 games, 40 goals and 66 assists) have flat out dominated the Ontario Hockey League. What a fit one of these two would be on a Bruins team that lacks a marquee player. Hall may be a bitter fit as he's a natural winger who can slide right into a line with one of the following centers: Savard, Bergeron, and Krejci.
The Bruins need to focus on what they can control: winning hockey games. Tonight's win against Buffalo was a good start in securing a decent playoff seed for the beat up squad.
