The David Ortiz Saga

We're two series into the season and it's already begun. David Ortiz is 2-18 with 9 strikeouts and his frustration is already apparent. Last week he snapped at reporters saying there were "160 f*cking games left", Friday night he was ejected for arguing a questionable check swing, and yesterday he struck out four times.

Yes, we're a mere six games into the season and the sample size is small, but Papi's start is not encouraging. Granted, he was baseball's best home run hitter from June on last season (28 bombs), but can the Red Sox afford to give the slumping Ortiz two months to figure out his swing?

Not with Mike Lowell sitting on the bench.

Terry Francona is the ultimate player's manager, and he will stick with Ortiz as long as he can. However, one has to think it won't be too long before the team's brain trust is whispering in his ear.

How long do you think the Sox can wait for Ortiz to figure it out?

  1. Hermida is nice. He has the most potential and should be next in line for the DH spot. Not crusty Lowell. Give Papi till May to do anything respectable
