Josh Beckett gave up eight runs and five homers in eight innings of work tonight, as the Yankees beat the Red Sox. Beckett has hit a rough patch, giving up ten home runs over his last three starts. The Sox are not going to win games when he gives up this many runs. Beckett did interestingly pitch eight innings and 120 pitches tonight despite his struggles. That saved the bullpen without the day-off tomorrow, but hopefully was not too much work for him. The Sox are now 7.5 behind the Yanks for the division, and they are one game over the Rangers and three over the Rays. I will not use this as a forumn to bicker about how the division is lost. It is a long season, and the Yankees are playing better.
Enter the 63-61 White Sox come to Fenway as they battle for the central title with the Tigers. The Chi-Sox, like the Red Sox are 5-5 in their last ten games. Here are the matchups:
8/24 7:10PM NESN Buchholz (2-11, 3.99 ERA) vs. Contreras (5-11, 5.13 ERA)
8/25 7:10 PM NESN Lester (10-7, 3.58 ERA) vs. Garcia (0-1, 10.38 ERA)
8/26 7:10 PM NESN Wakefield (11-3, 4.31 ERA) vs. Floyd (10-8, 3.98 ERA)
8/27 7:10 PM NESN Tazawa (2-2, 3.57 ERA) vs. Danks (11-8, 3.85 ERA)
Four more big games as we head down the stretch. Contreras hasn't been pitching well in his last eight starts, and Garcia just made his first start of the season. Floyd and Danks have been having great years. This team is hungry and swinging a good bat. The Sox will look to leave the Yankees series behind them, and take atleast two of these.
