Paul Byrd needed just 81 pitches last night to complete seven innings for the PawSox. The accurate righty gave up one run, struck out three, and walked none. Byrd wasn't facing the best of Triple-A lineups (Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs of the Phillies organization), but an impressive outing non-the-less.
In Jed Lowrie's first rehab start he homered for his only hit in four at-bats.
Brady Penny will not be traded before September 1st. Like mostly all players, Penny was placed on waivers after the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline. He was then claimed at which point the Sox pulled him back, eliminating the possibility of a trade; too bad.
Billy Wagner used his no-trade clause and will not be coming to the Red Sox. He prefers to pitch in a low-pressure environment the rest of the season it appears.
