The Sox started in a 3-0 hole and came back on RBIs by Drew, Tek, and Ellsbury during a 4th inning rally. The Sox then found themselves down 5-3 going into the bottom of the 5th when J-Bay hit a two-run dinger to tie up the game. Kotchman would later pinch-hit for A-Gon after the rain delay and hit into a fielder's choice that brought home the eventual game winning run. Every Red Sox starter had a hit tonight besides Varitek.
Red Sox pitchers struck out 17 batters tonight. Beckett had another sub-par outting giving up five hits, five walks, and five run in five innings. Saito, Bard, Oki, and Paps went on to throw four shutout innings though which helped the Sox finish off the game and the victory. Papelbon was his usual eventful self allowing the Jays to load the bases, as he struck out the side.
MORE:
-Good to see Jacoby in the lineup a night after he left the game with a sprained ankle; he has been very durable.
-Tek did a superb job blocking the plate in the middle of the game which saved a run; that's where he's invaluable.
-Hopefully Buchholz can go six plus tomorrow because this bullpen is being worked. Expect to see Wagner's debut tomorrow too.
-V-Mart said today on EEI that he would want to resign with the Red Sox and said 'who wouldn't want to play here?' Manny anyone?
-Lowrie's wrist checked out OK and he will resume plaing in Pawtuckett.
-Dice-K is reported lined up to pitch for the big club on September 9th. Will he be of help?
I am headed to enemy territory (NYC) Saturday AM for the weekend. I will post when I can.
