This and That

RED SOX

-On the heals of a superb return outing, Wakefield will not make his next scheduled start on Tuesday. As a result, Lester will not be moved from his start tomorrow and have it pushed back to Tuesday. Clay will still pitch tonight, if the game isn't rained out, and tomorrow's starter is up in the air. Paul Byrd, who was supposed to start tonight for Pawtucket, has been scratched in case the Sox need him tomorrow. Confusing, but what it all really means is that the Sox will have to make a roster move tomorrow if tonight's game is played because we have no one to start tomorrow.
-Junichi Tazawa was optioned to the Rookie League tonight and the Red Sox added a fresh arm to the bullpen in Marcus McBeth. McBeth has posted solid numbers in Triple-A this year with a 2.70 ERA in 63 1/3 IP. Tazawa may be back sometime in September, or the Sox may simply shut him down for the year.
-In yet another move, the Red Sox added speedy Joey Gathright to the fold for a PTBNL from the Orioles. Gathright was batting .329 with 24 SB in Triple-A and could help the big club in September.
-Tonight's lineup is our best offensive one:
  1. Ellsbury - CF
  2. Pedroia - 2B
  3. Martinez - C
  4. Youkilis - 1B
  5. Ortiz - DH
  6. Bay - LF
  7. Lowell - 3B
  8. Drew - RF
  9. Gonzalez - SS
-Here's a breakdown of what our September call-ups could look like when rosters expand. Some interesting names and possibilities of reinforcements.

PATRIOTS

-Belichick had a conference call this afternoon, as is customary the day after a game, and he had nothing to add about Brady's shoulder obviously. For what it's worth, he did say the plan all along was to play Brady only one half so they could see the backups in the second half. His shoulder should be fine according to Mike Reiss of the Globe.
