I am going to try and instill as a fixture a 'This and That' post several times a week highlighting things that are going on in the Boston world of sports, as well as some thoughts I have.
Here it goes:
RED SOX
-With Jason Bay out with a hamstring injury again tonight, rookie Josh Reddick (2nd ranked prospect on soxprospects.com) is getting another start in the OF. However, since the V-Mart and Kotchman deals the Sox have been carrying one less pitcher (Masterson being the one not out in the pen), so when the OF heals up look for Reddick to go back to the minors to continue to get regular at-bats and the Sox to call up another pitcher because we all know we burn through them in Sox/Yanks series'.
-Wakefield's calf is bothering him now, so he has yet to throw since being placed on the DL.
-Lowell was the odd man out tonight of the 1B/3B/C/DH shuffle. They must really not feel comfortable with him in the field, which is too bad because everything to him used to be so routine.
-Lester 10 Ks in 6 innings - STUD
CELTICS
-Rookie second round pick Lester Hudson, who I am very intrigued by, continues to recover from a finger injury that he suffered in the summer league and will be ready to start working out in three weeks accordning to the Boston Globe. Should be interesting to see how Danny handles the backup point guard spot which will be directly reflected on his confidence on Hudson.
-Still no news on Marquis Daniels and Glen Davis. No news is good news though because that means no one is reportedly after them.
PATRIOTS
-Newly signed backup QB Andrew Walter (sporting Cassel's old #16 uni) practiced today with the squad. The fourth year player out of ASU will add whatever experience he got in Oakland to the bench. Cleo Lemon and Michael Vick were floated out there as possibilities, but I would have liked to see a veteran like Brian Griese perhaps. I can't question Belichick though.
-DE Kevin Carter the 14-year vet with 104.5 career sacks was working out with the Pats today. The 35 year old could add some much needed pass rushing, but seems a bit redundant with Jarvis Green. Personally I'd like to see the Pats work on the OLB spot which is pretty vacant opposite Adalius Thomas. Pierre Woods seems to be the leader in that pack, but will he hold up the entire season? Derrick Burgess maybe who the Raiders are dangling. The Pats will not give up the 3rd or 4th rounder they are asking for. Especially since we ripped old Al Davis off with a 4th rounder for Randy Moss!
