Patriot Special Teams Crucial in the W

With a little help from Bills return man Leodis McKelvin, who decided to return a kick he could have knelt, the Pats special teams forced the fumble that won the game. Brandon Merriweather kept McKelvin up long enough to strip the ball from his grip and Stephen Gostkowski jumped in at the last second to corral the ball.

MORE:

-Gostkowski had a rare missed FG in the game, a 41-yarder in the 1st quarter.
-Maroney and Faulk returned kicks. Maroney's first and only return was for 52 yards, while Faulk had four returns averaging 23 yards per. I'd like to see Maroney get his hand on more than one return a game back there.
-Wes Welker was back returning punts all night.
-The team declared WR Julian Edelman, G Dan Connolly, RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis, OL Rich Ohrnberger, DL Myron Pryor, OG Kendall Simmons, S Matthew Slater, and CB Terrance Wheatley inactive for Week 1. These inactive resulted in some new names being present on the special teams including recently signed #38 DB Bret Lockett and #50 DE/LB Rob Ninkovich. I even had to peak the roster during the game to see who these players were!

The special teams is looking very good after one game. Mixed with veterans, this is reminiscent of the Super Bowl years special teams that used a good balance of starters and reserves.
