This and That

RED SOX

-The Sox lost 8-5 tonight. They battled to get back into the game after Beckett was off again tonight. He did pitch better striking out nine and walking none, but continued to give up HRs. V-Mart capped off the comeback with a crucial hit in the seventh. Francona, for the second straight night, made a questionable bullpen move. Tonight, he left in Ramon Ramirez for a second inning and he and Manny Delcarmen proceeded to allow three runs. Buchholz vs. Price tomorrow night in the rubber game.
-Varitek caught Beckett again tonight. He has to get his starts, but his average is down to .218 and we can't keep sitting Lowell.
-The Sox recalled Josh Reddick from Pawtucket. He didn't play too well after his demotion last month, but could grab a few spot starts, as he is better suited than Joey Gathright and Brian Anderson. He is behind Baldelli though.
-Wakefield claims the pain in his back his back has subsided since the cortisone shot. He wants to pitch this weekend. Byrd and Tazawa are currently scheduled to pitch Friday and Saturday.

PATRIOTS

-The Patriots play their final preseason game tomorrow night at home versus the Giants. Tom Brady and many others will not play.
-The Patriots worked out C/G and former Steeler Kendall Simmons. The team really lacks a backup center, so look for them to make a move there.
-Sammy Morris returned to practice, and worked behind BenJarvis Green-Ellis. Perhaps this is because he has to work his way back, but Green-Ellis has been running hard this preseason. With cuts coming Saturday from 75 to 53, the team is going to be in a numbers crunch.
-Will the team look for a backup QB? Old friend Damon Huard was just released by the 49ers. How high are they on un-drafted rookie FA Hoyer out of Michigan State?
