This and That

RED SOX:

-Billy Wagner said he will not accept arbitration when the team offers it to him after the season. This is simply a stepping stone for Wagner, who will be looking for a job as a closer. The Sox will get two draft picks if a team signs him, so hopefully he continues to pitch well and help us while also helping his value on the open-market this offseason.

-Takashi Saito will make $500,000 when he makes his next appearance, his 50th of the season. The lightly used righty has already made $5 million this season.

-Top prospect P/SS Casey Kelly will play in the Arizona Fall League this offseason. He will be playing some SS, most likely a couple days a week. The 19-year old had a 2.08 ERA with a 74/15 K/BB ratio in 17 starts in two Single-A minor league stops. He then was shut-down after 95 innings and has since batted .224 with a .618 OPS for the Greenville Drive. It will be interesting to see how the organization will use him next season.

CELTICS:

-KG practiced at the Celtics facility in Waltham today. The team will however proceed with caution when it comes to full-contact drills when camp starts next month. It sounds like they will baby him this season based on Ainge's comments "We’re getting him ready for training camp and looking forward to him being healthy in the playoffs." With Sheed and Baby on the bench, the team will really take it easy on him in the regular season.

-With 14 players on the roster, the team in search of a backup PG worked out Tyrone Lue, Dan Dickau, and Mike Taylor. The team has some options. House can still backup the position and numerous outlets say Marquis Daniels can too (I will believe that when I see it). If they believe one or both can back up Rondo, then the team should give themselves some flexibility for later in the season and stay with 14. They signed Cassel and O'Bryant last season to put the roster to the max of 15 and it hurt them at deadline time when they went after a big man and Marbury. The team also has unsigned second round pick Lester Hudson who can play the point, but was not truly tested at Tennessee-Martin.
