Bruins Win in Shootout
The Bruins clawed their way back last night for a phenomenal win against a tough Ottawa team. Trailing 3-1 with less than two minutes left in regulation, Mark Recchi scored at 18:32 and David Krejci scored at 19:38 to tie the score at 3-3 and inject life into a Bruins team that sorely needed it. It was a great moment for Recchi as this was his 1,500th career game.
Despite the Bruins having a power play in the overtime period, neither team was able to score and the game moved onto a shootout. Tim Thomas stepped up tonight and stopped the Senators three most dangerous players in the shooutout (Kovalev, Alfredsson, and Spezza). Patrice Bergeron scored the winning goal in the shootout, fooling G Brian Elliott and sneaking it through his five hole for the goal.
The three stars of the game were: 1) LW Milan Michalek (OTT) 2) G Tim Thomas (BOS) & 3) D Derek Morris.
It was good to see Morris get on the stat sheet with a couple of points tonight as he has not had the impact the team had hoped when they signed him to a free agent contract this off-season. He has had back-to-back impressive nights and will look to continue to build on that the rest of the season.
The Bruins need to show the ability to skate better. They need to get to pucks faster, show increased effort on the forecheck, and show a better ability to make plays on a more consistent basis.
Newly acquired W Daniel Paille has impressed since he arrived from Buffalo, giving the B's the speed and aggressiveness on the ice that they've been missing this season. He has an uncanny ability to play the body and always seems to play with 110% effort.
Brad Marchand has been impressive in his debut since being called up, but most keep up his impressive play in order to prevent the B's from sending him back to the minors. Coach Claude Julien has shown a strong affinity for the rookie, skating him on the top line in the last two contests.
The team had a tough task of playing three games in four nights but came out with a 2-0-1 record, tallying 5 points in the standings when they desperately needed it. The B's can now catch their breath and prepare for their next game, which isn't until Thursday night at home vs. New Jersey.
