The Bruins were down 3-0 halfway through the 3rd period when suddenly a switch went off. After the first goal from Savard electricity filled the Garden and the Bruins would feed off it. Byron Bitz added a goal minutes later and Matt Hunwick capped off the comeback with a goal on a beautiful pass from Wheeler. In a span of five and a half minutes the B's scored three goals to tie the game.
In our first shootout of the year Blake Wheeler scored on his first attempt. He was quickly matched by young Islander center Rob Schremp but Savard would come right back and net the eventual winner in stunning fashion.
Tukkaa Rask, a 2005 first-round pick, was somewhat of a surprising start in goal tonight. With the team off to a 1-2 start and coach Claude Julien elected to go with the youngster between the pipes. Rask gave up all three goals in the second period and looked solid finishing with 35 shots.
The team moves to 2-2 and will play next Monday vs. Colorado at 1.
NOTES:
-The Bruins D only allowed eight shots in the third period.
-Boston struggled again on the PP tonight going 0 for 5, but played well short-handed (1-6).
