Rewind to the end of the fourth quarter. Under 30 seconds remained in the game with the Celtics up two when Ray Allen was whistled for an offensive foul that would give the Knicks the ball. Al Harrington nailed two clutch free throws to tie the game up before a broken play at the ed of the regulation that would result in an ill-advised three-point attempt by Rajon Rondo.
The overtime period ensued and it was tied up with the Celtics having the final possession after some questionable calls by the refs. The play out of the timeout for the Celtics had Pierce driving into the lane and forcing a double team that would leave Garnett open for the game-winning shot. Before nailing the 19 foot jumper to win the game, KG was a measly 3-14.
MORE:
- Pierce had a great game this afternoon netting 33 points (6/7 3PT FG, 9/10 FTs), 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks.
- Rondo nearly tipple-doubled scoring 14 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists while adding 4 steals.
- Ray Allen's inconsistent shooting continues. He shot 3-13 from the field (1 of 6 threes) today.
- Continuing the trend of struggling Celtics, Rasheed Wallace was 0-6 from the floor and 0-3 from downtown.
- Big Perk had 16 points, 13 boards, and 4 blocks. It was good to see Kendrick rebound from his previous foul-plagued performance.
- Instead of keeping one of Pierce/Allen on the court with the bench, Doc made an interesting switch today. He elected to run Rondo with the second unit which allowed House to play off the ball at the two and Marquis Daniels to play the small forward position. We'll keep an eye on the subbing patterns to see if this will be a new trend.
- The Celtics blew a 14 point lead in the third quarter when they allowed the Knicks to go on a 27-8 run.
