Bruins Drop One in OT to the Islanders
Perhaps G Tuukka Rask should play more often. Behind another start with G Tim Thomas between the pipes, the B's went down 3-2 in overtime to the New York Islanders tonight. Thomas stopped 16 of 19 shots for an unimpressive 84.2 save percentage. The younger and seemingly more talented Rask has been excellent for the Bruins team and has been a large contributor in the recent games won by the team.
The Islanders scored just 3:58 into the first period to take an early 1-0 lead but the Bruins retaliated later in the period with a snippy on a breakaway by Michael Ryder to even the score with just under six minutes remaining. The Bruins would then take the lead in the second period thanks to a goal by the talented David Krejci with ten and a half minutes remaining on the clock. Both Ryder and Krejci chipped in a goal and assist this evening. The Islanders later tied the game at two towards the end of the period as they beat Thomas for an easy goal.
The third period saw a lot of action come from the Bruins on the offensive side as they outshot the Islanders 17-3 but were unable to convert on any opportunity and the team carried into OT. Just 24 seconds into the OT frame, the Islanders' Frans Nielsen sent one home to sink the B's tonight. Tim Thomas was caught on his heels and could do nothing to stop the puck from finding the back of the net.
Three Stars of the Game: 1) Frans Nielsen (NYI) 2) Rob Schremp (NYI) 3) Michael Ryder
The Bruins pick up a point after tonight's OT loss and head home to take on the Philadelphia Flyers Monday night at 7:00.
