The Bruins kept rolling this evening as they cruised by the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-1. Marc Savard netted his 200th career goal this evening just after the ink had just finished drying off of his fresh 7 year-extension signed yesterday. G Tim Thomas made his second straight start between the pipes and stoned a remarkable 39 of 40 shots to guide the B's to the win tonight.
After Savard gave the B's the lead 8:05 into the game, the team never looked back scoring 4 unanswered goals. Patrice Bergeron continues to contribute for the team and had another goal tonight (8th on the season) as well as two assists. Marco Sturm scored the other two Boston goals and Mark Recchi had three assists as well. It was a very well-rounded effort for the Bruins.
After beginning the season in a tailspin and filled with disappointment, the B's have really been able to turn it around and have established themselves as a legitimate playoff contender. The team has won 6 of their last 7 games and sit at an impressive 14-8-5 for the year, good enough for 1st place in the Northeast division and 6th in the Eastern Conference.
Three Stars of the Game: 1) Marco Sturm 2) Patrice Bergeron 3) Mark Recchi
The Bruins will visit the 12-13-2 Montreal Canadiens on Friday night at 8:00.
