Celtics Lose Daniels to Thumb Injury

Down goes Daniels.

UPDATE 1:22 PM-- Daniels will miss 6-8 weeks following surgery.

The Boston Celtics have announced this morning that reserve swingman Marquis Daniels will be out indefinitely following surgery to repair a torn thumb ligament on his left hand. The PG of the second-unit had been playing with a splint to try and alleviate the pain but ultimately decided to have a corrective procedure that will allow him to play at full strength once he steps back onto the court.

An extended absence for Daniels will have a significant impact on the Celtics' rotational depth. Sharpshooter Eddie House will likely see more time at the point with Tony Allen possibly getting an increase in minutes at the two guard spot. Look for rookie PG Lester Hudson to possibly earn some meaningful minutes as well as starter Rajon Rondo to see an uptick in time with the second team.

Daniels was really starting to step into his role for the team and fulfill the void they had last season as a reliable option at the point off of the bench. F Glen Davis continues to rehab from his injury and is expected back at the beginning of the new year.
