Marc Savard Inks New Deal With Bruins
The Bruins locked up offensive leader Marc Savard to a 7-year deal worth $28.05 million. Savy will be 39 when the deal expires in 2017. Here's how the contract breaks down: he will make $7 million for each of the first two seasons, $6.5 million the third season, $5 million the fourth season, $1.5 million in the fifth season and $525,000 in the last two years of the deal.
Savard missed about a month earlier this season with a broken foot, but has been as steady as they come over his previous three seasons in Boston. The talented playmaker registered 96, 78, and 88 points over the course of the last three years and is integral to the Bruins quest for success.
In the short-term, the B's will need Savard to step up his offensive production and carry the load with Milan Lucic sidelined again due to injury. In the long-term, Savard must prove that he is worthy of this extension and maintain his consistent production in order for the team to maintain success.
