This and That: 12-17

CELTICS
  • The Celtics return home on Friday after playing 7 of their last 8 on the road. The team will enjoy a few games at home before they head down to Orlando for their game on Christmas day; the C's will then go on a three game west coast trip.
  • G Lester Hudson, the 25-year old 2nd round pick of the team, will be sent to the Maine Red Claws, the Celtics D-League affiliate. Hudson, who has played only 49 minutes this season, will get some serious burn for instead of riding the pine on the Celtics' bench. The team hopes this will help his development.
  • The Celtics' 2nd rounder of two years ago, Bill Walker, has been tearing up the D-League in his first 5 games: 16.7 PPG (32-74 FGs, 7-19 3PTs, 29-31 FTs) and 7.8 RPG in 29 minutes per game. Walker is proving he is recovered from off-season knee surgery, but there is no spot for him with the C's as of now.
BRUINS
  • A slew of injuries are hitting the Bruins as Milan Lucic (ankle) will be out at least 7 days after he was placed on the IR. Lucic hasn't played since November 25th, and this procedural tactic allowed the B's to make some roster moves.
  • Defenseman Mark Stuart will miss even more time as he is out 4-6 weeks with a broken sternum (ouch). Stuart has played 196 straight games, but will be shelved along with fellow D-man Dennis Wideman who left last game with an undisclosed injury and did not return.
  • Defenseman Adam McQuaid (10 points and 66 penalty minutes in 29 AHL games) and Andy Wozniewski (6 goals and 23 points in 29 AHL games) have been recalled from Providence and should see some time with the big club with all of the injuries.
  • The B's begin a tough road trip on Friday that includes three games in four nights. They take on Chicago (20-8-3), Toronto (12-15-7), and Ottawa (17-12-4). Sitting only 4 points behind Buffalo for the Northeast division lead and a chance to jump to the 3rd seed in the East in the standings, these games will be telling for a Bruins team that has had to deal with injury adversity all season.
PATRIOTS
  • QB Tom Brady (right shoulder/right finger/rib), WR Randy Moss (not injury related), DE Ty Warren (ankle), and NT Vince Wilfork (foot) all missed practice yesterday. Brady, along with the injuries, probably needed a mental health day with a newborn baby in the house. Moss was given Wednesday off, a week after he was sent home. Warren and Wilfork each left the game Sunday with the aforementioned injuries.
