PATRIOTS- Good news as Ty Warren and Vince Wilfork returned to practice yesterday. Brady and Moss were given the day off which has become commonplace of late. Tully Banta-Cain was the only other player to miss practice, but his absence was not injury related.
- Continuing their strategic approach to locking up their role players, the Patriots inked OL Dan Connolly to a two-year extension through 2011. The 27 year old out of Southeast Missouri State has filled in admirably at RG for Stephen Neal recently and can also play center. Neal is a free agent after the season, so perhaps this affordable deal could allow them to let Neal go at season's end.
- Other Patriots resigned this season include: LB Rob Ninkovich, LB Eric Alexander, LB Tully Banta-Cain OT Nick Kazcur, OT Mark LeVoir, and WR Sam Aiken.
- Bill Belichick said the Patriots will practice tomorrow even though it is Christmas Day. The Coach feels that it's necessary to ensure the Patriots position in the playoffs.
RED SOX- Are the Sox in on Jason Bay and Matt Holliday still? There are talks that the team may consider expanding their organizational budget to eclipse the $170 million luxury tax (at which point there is a 22% tax). The real question is where does each LF fit? Time will tell.
- If an old elbow injury forces John Lackey to miss a significant chunk of a season, the Sox possess a conditional club option for the 2015 season (this would be his 6th year in Boston) that would have Lackey pitch for the Sox in 2015 at the league's minimum salary (which is currently $400,000). A creative way to protect themselves.
- Kevin Youkilis was voted the team's MVP and Jon Lester the pitcher of the year by Boston's chapter of the Baseball Writer's Association. No qualms about those picks.
