Bruins Lose in Shooutout and More

Up 3-1 in the third period, the Bruins could not hold off the hungry LA Kings in the second game in this west coast trip that the B's coughed up a late lead. The Bruins went down 1-0 midway through the first period when recently signed Miroslav Satan would get his second goal as a member of the Bruins. Second period goals by Blake Wheeler (12) and Michael Ryder (11) were only 11 seconds apart, and the B's looked to be cruising with three unanswered. However, Tim Thomas would not be able to "save" the day as he allowed two third period goals and two scores in the shootout session as he stopped 31 shots on the day.

There was some good to take out of this game for the long-term:
  • Once again, the Bruins picked up a point despite losing in extra time.
  • The B's penalty kill continues to excel as they stopped LA on all five of their powerplays today, including two separate 3 on 5's. They lead the league in penalty kill at 87.7%.
  • This was the final game of the season that the Bruins play outside of the Eastern time zone.
  • The Bruins welcomed back D Mark Stuart after he had missed 14 games with a broken sternum. Stuart will help sure up the D until the offense gets healthy and going.
  • David Krejci also returned to the ice after missing last game.
In other injury news leading scorer Marco Sturm missed today's action due to a leg injury. Hopefully the 15-goal scorer won't be out long. Marc Savard (knee), Andrew Ference (groin), and Patrice Begeron (thumb) each missed their fourth, fifth, and sixth games respectively. Sitting fifth in the Eastern Conference, the Bruins could use these core players back sooner than later so they can finish off games like today's that they blew.

The Bruins return to the ice for a Monday afternoon tilt at home versus the Senators who the Bruins have dominated this season. It will be a 1 o'clock drop of the puck on the MLK holiday.
