Tired Bruins Lose 5-1

In what was their fourth game in six days, the Bruins came out flat today. After a 1 PM PST game on Saturday in LA, the Bruins arrived back in Boston in the wee hours of Sunday morning and had a quick turnaround with an afternoon game. The Bruins hate to use excuses, but the west coast road trip and travel home combined with a condensed schedule because of the Olympics obviously affected them.

For the first time this season the Bruins lost to the Senators. The Sens, lead by a hat trick by Daniel Alfredson, scored 5 goals on just 26 shots. Tim Thomas, who has an unbelievable record against the Sens, was completely ineffective today giving up 3 goals on just 9 shots. Thomas' personal record falls to an umimpressive 13-12-6 after a magnificent year last season. He was pulled in favor of Tuukka Rask who stopped 15 of 17 shots, but it was too late.

Down 4-0 heading into the final period, it appeared as if the B's might of had some fight left in them. A goal after a deflection by Daniel Paille (6) four minutes into the period was all the Bruins could muster though. Rookie defenseman Johnny Boychuck assisted the goal in what was his third in two games and he continues to improve and fill in for the injured D.

The B's loss to the Sens puts them into a tie in points in the Eastern Conference with the Sens, although the Bruins own the tie breaker. Some much needed rest is in store for the Bruins as they have off until a Thursday game at home versus the Columbus Blue Jackets.
