Bruins Olympians plus Satan

The 2010 Winter Olympics will kick off February 12th in Vancouver. There will be hundreds of events set for this years' Olympics with, but one event always talked about during the winter games is Men's Ice Hockey. The Men's Ice Hockey tournament has from time to time been immortalized in this country thanks to the 1960 & 1980 gold medal teams and their remarkable journey to those victories. In recent memory, the 2002 Men's Olympic team won the silver medal after losing to Team Canada in the final. This year there will be plenty of new faces to represent their respective countries as veteran Olympians grow older in age.

There will now be six Bruins representing five different countries leaving from the Hub to arrive in British Columbia in weeks to come. Tim Thomas will be taking turns in between the pipes for the US with netminders Ryan Miller and former UMass Amherst goaltender Jonathan Quick. Patrice Bergeron who is having a stellar year with the B's will be taking the ice with Team Canada, even though he did not get invited to the team's orientation camp. Milan Lucic who was invited to the camp, was not picked for the final roster which might have been due to his most recent high-ankle injury. Marco Sturm, who is one of the most prolific German-born hockey players, will serve as the Captain for this year's German squad in Vancouver. As for sophomore David Krejci, he will get to skate alongside a sure soon to be Hall of Famer Jaromir Jagr for the Czech Republic. Lastly, Boston captain Zdeno Chara will be taking his leadership skills into the Slovakian locker room for their chance to obtain a medal.

Joining Chara will be recently acquired forward Miroslav Satan. There were rumors going around the NHL that Satan would be relocated to the Hub of Hockey and it wasn't announced until this morning that the signing was official. Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli made the announcement after today's practice in which Satan participated in. Miro was part of this past year's Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins and has been in the NHL since 1995 playing for four different teams. The 35 year-old made his longest stint with Buffalo and is known mostly for his quiet but deadly scoring ability. Head Coach Claude Julien stated that he expects Miro to join the team in the upcoming week or so hopefully bringing some scoring and competition into the Boston Bruins lineup.
