Season Over

It's beginning to seem real. The Patriots season is over just like that. Disappointing losses in New York, Denver, Indianapolis, New Orleans, and Miami set the tone for what we knew was an up hill battle to the Super Bowl. Bottom line is this team was not equipped for a deep playoff run.

Here are a few quotes from the Patriots' personnel after the loss:

Impending free agent NT Vince Wilfork on his status this offseason: "I want a long-term deal" and said he would be "upset" if he was slapped with the franchise tag. However, big Vince "wants to remain a Patriot."

Impending free agent RB Kevin Faulk: "I've been here 11 years and it feels like home. Why would I want to leave?"

Under-performing OLB Adalius Thomas "wouldn't be surprised" if he was released.

Impending free agent CB Leigh Bodden on what his preference is on returning to the Patriots: "I'd love to. It's a great group of guys."

Patriots RG Stephen Neal on his status: “I’m not sure how my body is going to feel. I’m not sure if I’ll keep playing, keep getting in them car accidents each week. We’ll have to find out, talk to the family, see what options are available.’’

Finally WR Wes Welker said “I pretty much knew right when it (his injury) happened that my season was probably over." Welker can't have surgery until the swelling in his MCL goes down, and his status for week 1 next season is in serious question.

This is just the beginning of what will be a long and interesting off-season for the Patriots. They will officially pick 22nd in April's draft. We will have off-season coverage of the Patriots throughout the winter and into the spring, so continue to check out Inside Boston Sports for your Patriots news.
