PATRIOTS
- This doesn't really qualify as news in our eyes, but Tom Brady officially won the NFL's Comeback Play of the Year award voted on by the Associated Press. Brady set a career high in completion percentage (65.7%), and threw for 4398 yards, while tossing 28 TD passes and 13 INTs.
- Four Patriots earned a spot on the AFC's Pro Bowl Roster this year - Tom Brady, Wes Welker, Logan Mankins, and Vince Wilfork. Wilfork and Mankins will start and Brady will be a reserve. We'll see what happens with Welker's spot on the roster given his knee injury. How about Randy Moss who was snubbed?
- Defensive coordinator Dean Pees gave the team a scare when he was forced to leave the sidelines during the game Sunday with shortness of breathe. The 60-year old Pees returned to the Patriots practice yesterday and is reportedly feeling fine.
- Adrian Beltre's physical is tomorrow, which means the Kotchman-for-Hall trade with Seattle probably won't become official until after that.
- Also, the Red Sox announced yesterday that free agent pick-up Mike Cameron will push Jacoby Ellsbury from CF to LF. Before everyone starts complaining about moving our young stud centerfielder, a look at UZR/150 (a measurement of the number of runs, above or below, a fielder is in 150 defensive games) shows that Jacoby's rating was -18.3 last season which was a huge drop from his '08 number of +6.9. In fact, in 346 innings in 2008 in LF, Ellsbury had a remarkable rating of +30.3. Cameron's had a +10.3 rating in CF last year, and a +15.6 in 2008. The move makes sense. - Rajon Rondo (hamstring) and Paul Pierce (knee) both practiced yesterday. Hopefully they can suit up tonight.
- Eddie House (flu) did not make the trip to Miami yesteday. If he feels better today, he will reportedly fly to Miami to meet up with the team.
- Kendrick Perkins (food poisoning) made the trip, but he is questionable for tonight.
