Bruins Crunchtime

Bergeron is the latest to suffer an injury.

After the Bruins put the romp on the Hurricanes last night by the score of 5-2, it was revealed that Patrice Bergeron may need to miss a significant amount of time due to injury. Berg is just the latest casualty of the injury-bug that has plagued Boston all season long (the most recent being the concussion to Marc Savard).

The injury came on a Bruins goal that deflected off of Berg's skate and into the back of the net. Luckily, Coach Claude Julien didn't seem overly concerned, stating that the prognosis was "just a bruise." Another injury to a key cog of the team is the last thing that the Bruins need as they continue to battle adversity.

The Bruins currently sit at 8th in the Eastern Conference, 31-26-12 which is good for 74 points. The team needs to continue to keep the pedal to the medal as they have four teams who are right behind them in the standings: NY Rangers (71 pts), Atlanta Thrashers (68 pts), Tampa Bay Lightning (68 pts), and the NY Islanders (67 pts). It's remarkable to think that the Bruins are in playoff contention despite the injuries they've sustained this season.

With the emergence of Tuukka Rask, the help of veterans like Mark Recchi, the energy of scrappers such as Daniel Paille, and the aid of goal scorers like Marco Sturm and David Krejci, the Bruins will attempt to defy the odds and sneak into postseason play.
