The Red Sox are 65-49.
The Rangers are 64-49.
This is a big series.
8/14 8:05PM on NESN Lester (9-7, 3.67 ERA) vs. Millwood (9-7, 3.38 ERA)
8/15 8:05PM on NESN Penny (7-6, 5.16 ERA) vs. Holland (5-7, 5.04 ERA)
8/16 2:05PM on TBS Tazawa (1-1 4.05 ERA) vs. Nippert (3-1, 3.62 ERA)
GAME 1
Jon Lester comes off two spectacular performances against the Rays and Yanks, but has no wins to show for it. In 13 IP in those two starts he gave up two earned runs, while striking out 17, walking two, and only giving up eight hits. After missing two weeks with a strained glutenous muscle, Millwood had a no decision against the Angles giving up two runs in six innings. Millwood is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA this season against the Sox.
GAME 2
Penny pitched better his last time out (6 IP 3 ER), but he is far too inconsistent. His fastball is typically there, but his other stuff has not been. This is a good fastball hitting team, and it's a bandbox so keep your fingers crossed. In his first season in the majors, Holland is starting to find his groove. The left-hander threw a complete game shutout in his last start against the Angles allowing only three hits, striking out eight, and walking one. Just three starts ago against Seattle, Holland threw 8 2/3 innings striking out 10. Lets hope our veteran hitters can figure out the young southpaw.
GAME 3
Junichi Tazawa threw well his last time out against the Tigers. He had some spotty D behind him in the first inning that made him labor more and resulted in a five-inning outing, but he recovered well and showed great poise. We need to see a larger sample of the youngster, and a great spot to see what he's made of is in Texas. The right-handed Nippert is pitching well for the Rangers. In his last start against Cleveland he struck out 10 in 6 IP while allowing five runs (all in one inning). He has been solid all season and earlier in the year against us he picked up the victory allowing an earned run in 5 2/3 IP.
NOTES:
-Don't expect to see any Ian Kinsler. He's on the DL with a hamstring injury.
-Texas is 5-5 in their last 10 games.
EDIT: Kinsler expected back from rehab assignment Friday or Saturday. Thank you Joe for the information.
KEEP IT COMING GUYS AND GALS!
