Bruins Lose to Coyotes 4-1

The Bruins continue their up and down start to the NHL season. After a promising 3-0 defeat of the Dallas Stars the previous night, the Bruins were unable to capitalize on their momentum and fell to the hands of the Phoenix Coyotes tonight 4-1. The 5-2 Coyotes got another strong effort from Ilya Bryzgalov in net tonight stopping 22 of 23 shots as they continued their surprisingly hot start to the season. The Bruins, falling to 3-4 on the season, often looked flat on the attack playing without their lead aggressor Milan Lucic (broken finger).

The Coyotes jumped in front to a quick 2-0 lead in the game when Zdeno Chara was called for a questionable tripping penalty that led to a 4-on-4 situation. D Mark Stuart scored to bring the score to 2-1, but that was as close as the team would get to Phoenix all night. The Bruins did nothing to help themselves tonight, as they continued to struggle both on the power play (0-2) and on the penalty kill (2-4). The Bruins find themselves amongst the league's worst in both categories and must work to improve if they hope to find success as the season continues.

NOTES:

Tim Thomas continues his inconsistent season allowing four goals on 36 shots, getting little help from his defense as the Bruins were outshot 36-23 tonight.

There is no immediate timetable for Lucic's return from injury.

The Bruins continue the action at home, Wednesday, October 21st vs. Nashville at 7:00 EST.
