Celtics Down the Knicks in Second Preseason Game

This just about sumed up the Knicks night.

The Celts downed the lowly Knicks last night at the Garden. The starting lineup came out firing and outscored New York 19-8 in the first quarter. Although the C's only shot 44% as a team, the D held the NY to 38%.

Here's what I saw:

-Pierce played the most minutes of the starters (24), had nine points, five rebounds, three assists on 4-12 shooting (1-2 from downtown) and was a team high +18 when on the court.

-Ray Ray hit one of two tries from three point land and finished with 13/3/3 and two steals. He did miss an uncharacteristic three free throws (he missed 12 all of last year).

-Perkins had a good game going 14 points and 7 boards. He's slimmed down and appears quicker. He was the first sub replacing Sheed.

-Garnett had 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-2 FT) and 8 boards. He was kicked in the leg and showed a slight limped, but appeared to be OK.

-Rasheed was great off the bench tonight with 13 points (5-12 FG, 3-9 3PTs), and 12 boards.

-Rondo had six points and three assists with two turnovers. He looked good in the first quarter on a fast break when he pulled up and sunk a jumper, but later in the game he lost momentum on a fast break that cost the team a bucket. We all know he needs to improve his confidence on his mid-range jumper and its worth noting he aired balled his only three attempt.

-Marquis Daniels was not as good as he was in preseason game #1. He was 1-5 from the floor and did not record an assist in 19 minutes.

-Baby had 9 points and 8 boards. He is picking up right where he left off in last year's playoffs.

-Scal nailed 3 threes, 2 points ,1 rebound, 1 assist, and 1 steal in 17 minutes. If he's part of the second unit, he'll backup Pierce with Sheed and Baby backing up the big-men and House and Daniels backing up the guards). Let's applaud Scal's effort last night, but is he quick enough to handle small forward duties?

-Tony Allen got some run in the first quarter with the first subs. He was sidelined for several weeks this summer after undergoing ankle surgery. That along with ACL surgery two years ago and we have to begin to worry about any loss of speed. He had a nice pump-fake in the corner, but could not finish around the hoop on a play he would have slammed down in the past.

-Lester Hudson, JR Giddens, Shelden Williams, Bill Walker, and Michael Sweetney didn't get much run tonight. Look for Doc to pick certain games where he will give these guys extended minutes.

****Tough 1:00PM start time for the Celtics on Sunday in a busy day for Boston Sports. The Sox game is at noon, and the Pat's at 4:15 PM so make sure to check in for recaps on everything here at Inside Boston Sports.
