Red Sox Hit a New Low

Tito's toughest task yet.

The Red Sox were swept today by the lowly Baltimore Orioles and now stand at a disappointing 11-14. Baltimore is last in the league with seven wins-FIVE have come against the Sox.

Here are a few observations:
  • Where did the big bats go? David Ortiz, Victor Martinez, and J.D. Drew, are hitting a combined .204 (46 for 225).
  • Their pitching staff has the worst ERA in the AL at 4.89. Even more troubling is that the staff has a 5.05 ERA from the 7th inning and later.
  • The Sox have played an MLB-leading six extra inning games but are only 1-5.
  • Jacoby Ellsbury has played only six games this season due to an injury to his ribs. Hopefully, the Sox will get their spark plug atop the lineup back soon.
It's been disappointing thus far: the Sox are seven games out of 1st and 4th place in the division. Although it is early, the Sox can't afford to keep slipping with the powerful Rays & Yankees at the top. Hopefully, the pitching staff will right the struggles and the offense comes alive; otherwise, we're all in for another long Sox season.
