Celtics Add Frontcourt Depth

The Celtic's have signed former Duke and #5 overall pick Shelden Williams to a 1-year $1.3 million deal.

The 6'9" forward should add some front-court depth to the squad, but lets hope he never really has to play. Marc Spears reports via Twitter that this signing should not affect the resigning of Big Baby Davis, and I hope he's right.

The roster currently looks like this:

PG Rondo
SG Allen, R
SF Pierce
PF Garnett
C Perkins

G House
F/C Wallace
G/F Allen, T
F/C Scalibrine
G/F Giddens
F Walker
F Williams

That's 12 players signed for next season. The NBA max is 15. With the looming signing of Marquis Daniels (supposedly a done deal, but looking for 3rd team in a sign-and-trade) and the possible re-up of Baby that leaves 14 players. Many are pushing for a backup PG to solidify the roster. I, however, would like to see the C's sign second round pick G Lester Hudson. He's 6'3", 25 years old, and had a quadruple double in college. What's not to like? The past two years the C's have brought in veteran PG help (Cassell and Marbury) to help for the stretch run. House can handle the backup duties to Rondo for now and the C's can dump Scal's expiring deal later and pickup a PG.

Now we just need Baby and Daniels.

  1. The bench looks a little weak currently but with Baby and Daniels on the roster the C's would be 10 deep and that's impressive.
