Red Sox News and Notes

The Red Sox called up Pawtucket Red Sox closer Fernando Cabrera. The 28 year-old Puerto Rican right hander had a 1.69 ERA for the AAA club with 45 Ks in 48 IP. He will take the roster spot of Enrique Gonzalez who was called up for just a day ago in case the Sox needed a long man after the 15-inning affair. When I saw Cabrera's numbers in the beginning of the season I was waiting for the Sox to call him up. However, we had no one to move with too many solid pitchers/pitchers without options. Since Masterson's been gone it has been a revolving door in the bullpen with Traber, Gonzalez, etc. Now we can't find any consistency. Let's see if Cabrera's performance in Pawtucket can transfer.

In other news, Junichi Tazawa will get a chance to redeem himself of the HR given up to A-Rod in the 15th inning, as he will get the nod Tuesday night in Smoltz's vacated spot. Hopefully Tazawa can string together a few good starts until Wake is ready to get back into the rotation.

Jason Bay
will be in the lineup tonight for the first time this series. Ortiz will be sitting tonight.
