Jacoby and the Sox Take Down the Rays

Lester
pitched six very solid innings striking out nine. Wags came in and struck out two in a perfect inning of work. We entered the bottom of the eighth up 7-2. Oki entered the game, and he was not on his game. He gave up two runs and left the bases loaded when Francona finally came out to get him. With Bard and Papelbon warming up, Tito elected to bring in Paps with no outs and the bases loaded in a three run game. Paps struck out the first batter. Jason Bartlett then hit a liner to center that Jacoby Ellsbury ran in on an angle and caught the ball diving forward in the palm of his glove; it was his second spectacular catch of the game. The last out was a flyout and Papelbon was out of the inning. Even though Bard, Saito, and Delcarmen had been up, Tito left Papelbon in for the ninth and it paid off as he struck out the side; it was the first six-out save of his career.

Jacoby was also hot at the plate tonight going 2-4 with a tripple in the ninth inning that extended the lead. Youkilis, Drew, and Bay each went yard and ,Mike Lowell hit two doubles. The Sox offense puts up good run support again. This was a good win, and the Sox are clicking right now.

MORE:

-Wagner and Papelbon will most likely not be available tomorrow night.
-Texas is 3.5 games back (four in the loss column) after sweeping Toronto in a double header.
