Sox Dominate in Return to Fenway

The Sox offense erupted in tonight's 10-0 schlacking of the Orioles to improve their record to 46-21 at home (they're 34-37 on the road. The team had five homers in the first three innings tonight; Pedroia homered twice while JD, Youk, Gonzalez and Ortiz also went yard.

Buchholz was outstanding tonight while retiring the first 10 batters of the game. He went seven innings in total allowing three hits, one walk, and struck out five. Him and Victor Martinez continue to work very well together. Youngster Michael Bowden finished off the night with two shutout frames in his first outing since getting lit up by the Yanks last month.

Tonight's blowout allowed for the team to get seven bench players in tonight which allowed the team to give the regulars a 'half night.'

The Yankees won, again, on a walk-off HR. Texas won both gamse of their double header and are now 2.5 games (2 in the loss column) back of the Sox; they will not be going down quietly.

MORE:

The Red Sox signed slick fielding Cuban shortstop Jose Iglesias to a four-year Major League contract. The 19-year old gets $6 million up front and will make $550,00 each year of the deal. The team will then own him for two more arbitration years because the team owns his rights for six years (like Okijima after this season). Iglesias has drawn comparisons to the wizard, Ozzie Smith in the field and is a light hitter at the plate. I looked up his stats and in La Habana in international play, he had 101 hits in 314 ABs (.322) with no HRs. He will play soon in the the Arizona Fall League along with seven other Sox prospects.
